Ukrainian nuclear power: ticking time bomb activated

On June 15, the Ukraine’s Zaporizhia NPP has started loading the first batch of TVS-WR fuel produced by Westinghouse Electric Co. into the reactor of Unit 5, the press service of Ukraine’s Energoatom reported.

The event actually appeared to be so significant for the United States that Deputy Assistant Secretary of Energy Edward McGinnis has personally attended the Zaporizhia NPP.

The main purpose of my visit is to demonstrate strengthening of partnership with the government and the people of Ukraine. Furthermore this visit coincided with the very important event - loading of the fresh fuel supplied by the alternative nuclear fuel manufacturer for Ukraine, which is an important step made by Energoatom towards enhancement of the national energy security’, commented Mr. McGinnis.

‘Fresh’ modern American nuclear fuel, not suitable in the opinion of experts on a variety of characteristics, for yet Soviet era breathing nuclear reactors ... – is definitely an important step towards enhancement of the energy security all over the planet.

A. Butkevicius: Doing business on politics

There has been a great deal of talk recently about commercial activities of our Prime Minister A. Butkevicius. Thanks to the labors of the authorities the wave of scandals swamping the government and Social Democrats has at last started abating. There was actually much ado about the attempts by Butkevicius to gain more wealth by creating business paradise for his daughter’s husband Evaldas Vaitasius. The scandalous story of Ministerium, the company under the rule of Vaitasius, that the Prime Minister used for budget money laundering, is quite an eye-opening one in the context. And it shouldn’t be missed on us that Ministerium is only a tip of a huge iceberg, while Vaitasius is only one of many commercial partners of Butkevicius and he is definitely not the most influential one among them.

Yet another evidence to add meat to it is the stuff gotten by the Special Investigation Service of Lithuania. It reveals close and quite beneficial nexus between Butkevicius and his Kaunas “friend”, businessmen Audrius Jakubinas. This long standing relationship originating in the green years of both men now appears to have reached some higher level.

The greatest fraud of the century: referendum in Great Britain

As is known, 23 June, 2016, is the date of the EU vote in Great Britain , which is going to dramatically change the pattern of the relationship between the EU and the United Kingdom, despite the voting results. If Britons vote to remain in the European Union, they'll get more preferences and emerge as the nation even more isolated from the continental EU . In case they decide to leave the EU, several scenarios of the future are possible, though all of them are expected to include massive reconsidering of agreements, deals and contracts. Many experts also believe that Brexit may provoke rise of protectionist sentiment in European states resulting in more feeble power structures of the European Union

The agitation campaign before the referendum formally started on April 15. Her Majesty's Government is calling to vote for staying in the EU but, due to exclusive significance of the issue, the ministers were allowed to voice their private opinion that might differ from the official one, and 7 of 30 ministers have exercised this right . Electoral Commission of Great Britain has registered two campaigns: Vote Leave and Britain Stronger in Europe, each of them officially gained access to £600,000 of public grants with the right to spend up to £7m on the referendum campaign period. Still, David Cameron refused the fair play approach and several days before the start of the agitation period he made the decision to mail leaflets explaining the reasons for staying in the EU to every UK household. The whole mailshot is to cost somewhat £9.3m which will practically double the budget of the Britain Stronger in Europe campaign . Mr. Cameron is sure that high stakes in this game may serve solid enough justification of the huge sums to be spent, and so he isn't set to make any apologies at all .

Eurovision 2016 offended Ukraine

Eurovision song contest 2016 has left an unpleasant aftertaste that feels more like a hangover. It had all began with the preparations for the event when the threat of terrorist attacks made everyone feel rather nervous especially keeping in mind recent tragic events in Paris and Brussels . Despite the assurances of SAPO (Sweden's security service) of enhanced safety precautions at the event, the agitation had been in the air until the contest was over.

After that there was not a hint of fair play, instead we saw absolutely politicized performance which you can easily describe as scandal. Professional jury made up their minds to totally ignore opinions of millions of TV viewers. And it's not about the dispute over the first place that should have been Russia's according to the televoters, but the jury had reserved it for Ukraine beforehand. Poland is a more striking example. It received 222 televotes and could have been 3rd but for the 'honest' judges which gave only 7 votes to Michal Szpak downing him to the 8th place in the overall rating and to the 25th place in the jury rating!

Saakashvili did not receive Hahn's assurances that 'interim' Groysman's Cabinet resigns in 2017...

Many Ukrainians and their foreign partners have been dissatisfied with a new Cabinet of Ministers appointed after Yatsenyuk's resignation. The main critic of the government is Mikheil Saakashvili who currently holds office of Odesa Region's Governor.

Saakashvili considers that new ministers have been appointed by agreement with oligarchs who are not interested in democratic and anti-corruption reforms. Apparently, to one extent or another, influential European politicians share this opinion, too. Saakashvili's letter to Johannes Hahn has been uploaded on the Internet, which includes the situation assessment and alternative solutions of Ukrainian problem.

Dalia Grybauskaite: Seven Years of Lies

“We should be extremely careful in dealings with such post-Soviet politicians. Because of their claims to represent or even dominate in EU institutions, stubborn denial of obvious things and unwillingness to accept real life, they pose a serious threat to the balance of interests, established in Europe.”

European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fule once said it from the rostrum of influential Brussels Forum. Surely, being a career diplomat and prominent political figure he did not make any personal remarks, confining himself to such kind of generalities. But his unofficial utterances as well as statements of his less sparing of words colleagues offer the possibility to suggest that this chiefly refers to Dalia Grybauskaite, current President of Lithuania and an ambitious politician who denies her Soviet roots with persistence of a maniac.

Does Illarionov try on the crown of the opposition’s Messiah?

America’s efforts to create a certain base in Russia for advancing its own, sometimes very inconsistent political posture is not being disputed by, perhaps, anyone now. For sure, a candidacy for a role of a liberal saviour for authoritarian Russia generates most interest! No need to be Snowden to detect a political pawn after filtering out the information fields that soon is destined to become a weighty chessman.

DOME MOSQUE

The legendary Scythian philosopher Anacharsis when asked, which the safest kind of vessel was, uttered, “That which is brought into dock”.

Taking into consideration the current events in the world: terrorist attacks in Belgium and France, sexual bacchanalia in Cologne, and the Syrian involvement of the former head of the Islamic Culture Centre of Latvia who chose it to side with the Islamist militants, it’s just the time to place the Latvian political ship into such a dock to escape the refugee challenge.

Coalition parties declaring their different approaches to the aggravating problem stick to the single migration policy actually. The major reason of such a careless treatment of the situation is definitely the composition of the Coalition itself and the relevant distribution of ministerial posts in the Cabinet of Ministers.

UPD Catholic Church in Poland springs to Kaczynski’s defense

Why liberals foul the name of Jaroslaw Kaczynski?

Liberal European mass media and various websites have launched dirty publicity campaign to foul the reputation of greatly esteemed leader of the Law and Justice Party Jaroslaw Kaczynski. The Kaczynski family are known for their firm dedication to defending traditional Christian values even today when all known Bible vices and sins are presented as virtues, while those who honor the laws of the Church are publicly condemned. This makes it even more deplorable that the information, which not only sullies the good name of Jaroslaw Kaczynski and his late brother but is also a medical secret, is being widely disseminated. Even if pan Kaczynski is indeed suffering from the disease mentioned in the published papers, making the information available to public runs counter to the Church canon laws, moral standards and judicial laws!

Corruption in international sports supervisory authorities. Ban of meldonium is due to unfair competition between pharmaceutical companies.

The information about corruption in the highest bodies of anti-doping community is now confirmed by internal documents of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). In late March the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) asked WADA to stop persecution and exerting pressure on journalists investigating corruption in international sports organizations. As a result the financial and administrative committee of WADA has worked out a list of recommendations aimed to conceal the information about illegal activity of the agency and its partners.

The phenomenon of Kaczynski. Why Poland is on the brink of international isolation?

An influential Polish politician Jaroslaw Kaczynski continues to stir the European public with his controversial actions and eccentric statements. This time, his resonance amendments to the Polish laws on Mass Media and the Constitutional Court are on the substantive agenda.

Many people now directly accuse the leader of Law and Justice party in a deliberate escalation of internal political conflict and offer various versions about the reasons of these processes.

Dutch referendum on EU-Ukraine Association Agreement is actually a RARE example of the genuine EU democracy

Dear Europe,

Time is ripe for us to address our governments with the most plain and tough question, and that is, "When are we going to have our own referendum on EU-Ukraine deal?" The idea is that our governments are being excessively captivated with the nonstop blabbing about equality amid their ostensible pledges of adherence to lofty ideals of democracy. Why is it Netherlands only where the government decided to turn for their populace advice on such a vital issue? Do our governments care so little indeed about what their citizens actually think?

Ukraine is a huge densely populated state facing lots of challenges in economy, criminal statistics and management. High power echelons in Ukraine are eroded throughout with corruption. There's civil war with quite unpredictable impact still going on there. The humanitarian disaster appears to be inevitable. And in midst of this Brussels announces the association of Kiev with the EU! Has anybody asked for our opinion?

We suggest that we all should urgently demand from our governments a referendum on this issue like the one in the Netherlands. Let them prove by deeds, not words, that what we are having now is something that we can still identify as democracy, not "the democratic fascism"!

P.S. The formal reaction of Kiev together with that of ordinary Ukrainians to the expression of the free will by the Dutch people may be actually seen as a the level of readiness of Ukraine to become part of the civilized community.

Here are some striking examples:

Being friendly American way. The USA was spying on the British Royal Family

On the Internet, there’s been a wide spread of hot stuff concerning wiretap of the British Royal Family by some US intelligence services.

The fact of espionage activities by the US against its closest geopolitical ally Great Britain became known from a letter of the Head of Swiss Department of Finance Ueli Maurer to his British counterpart Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne.

In his official letter to the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Ueli Maurer reports a temporary suspension in the flow of financial documents between the two countries. The source of it lies in the results of an investigation conducted by Switzerland on the point of a leak of personal medical data of a certain member of the Royal Family who used to take advice from a leading Swiss pediatrician.

Jaresko dissociated herself from the letter to Nuland, not from the pressure on the Dutch

All the arguments of the Ukrainian head of finance ministry meant to rebuff the letter allegedly written by her to Nuland (it deals with the postponing of the Dutch referendum) may be boiled down just to one single phrase ‘I don’t use that sort of ink when affixing my signature’. It can’t be excluded at all that Jaresko really saw that letter for the first time. Like many other ministers in many other countries she habitually signs some documents without actually reading them. I mean the content of these documents prepared by some of the staffers is actually well familiar to her. If so, Mrs. Minister should employ the chance to explore in the same critical manner many other documents of her ministry, including those posted on the formal government websites. She is going to find there both many variants of paper stamping and the wording that provoked such a splash of tardy criticism on her part. Unfortunately, ‘poor English’ is sort of an ancestral flaw with the middle level Ukrainian officials, including Ministry of Foreign Affairs. And these are exactly those officials who usually write draft letters for the ministers. That specific ‘Ukrainian English’ adds more meat to arguments the document is authentic, rather than proves it’s not. The bulk of the Ukrainian citizens make sort of a different populace in the context if compared to their rulers who, starting with president Poroshenko, are in far better command of English than Ukrainian actually.

Freedom in exchange for stability. The Kurds will get independence.

Independent Kurdistan, the worst nightmare of Erdogan, is going to become reality in the short run. Many mass media outlets point directly to this while testing the public opinion on the issue of another reshaping of the Middle East political map.

The Telegraph and JTA have published series of articles under the high-sounding titles on future independence of Kurdistan. Bild and Die Welt in Germany, the Sun and Mirror Online in Great Britain, Haaretz and the Jerusalem Post in Israel echo them.

Failed exam of the Russian opposition. ‘Blue’ revolution instead of liberal?

“…Given the current fundamentally different circumstances, is it well justified to rely on the Russian opposition when dealing with Putin’s Russia? Should we continue engaging it in the stand against the regime or we’d better cut off funding and supporting it?
– I believe there could be one answer to all of your questions. There is no truly effective opposition in Russia today! Yet, everything is not as simple as that and we still keep our doors open…”
Press conference of the U.S. Senator for Maryland Ben Cardin.

Well, isn’t it breaking? There happens to be no opposition in Russia! Or to be more exact, there is, but it’s rather poor, spineless, toothless and outright useless.     You simply cannot single anyone out and call him a leader! The People’s Freedom Party of Mr. Kasyanov, The Progress Party of Mr. Navalny, The Democratic Choice of Mr. Milov – the titles and names are different while the essence is the same – half-criminal shady deals, undisguised hatred of their own people, commitment to fight for anything so long as it is paid for: today they fight against an abstract ‘putin’ for the money of American funds, tomorrow they set upon each other on request of private investors. Internal ideology of the opposition is in chaos altogether – human rights, corruption, ‘annexation’ of Crimea, the housing and public utilities reform, highway construction, ‘aggression’ in Syria, personal ambition, business, grants… The devil himself can’t figure it out who is with whom, why and most importantly – what for.

However there are sometimes traces not of life but of some showcase activity just like an incriminating report about Mr. Kadyrov uploaded in the web, or yet another anti-regime rally of a dozen people which gathers more bystanders than participants. Looks like they haven’t yet spent all the sponsors’ money, although judging by the ‘magnitude’ of the latest revolutionary parties their best days are far gone.

Sweden could have prevented terrorist attacks in Brussels!

According to Dagens Nyheter daily, one of the culprits in the tragedy in Brussels Mohamed Belkaid had been registered in the suburbs of Stockholm since 2010 and had close ties to Bakraui brothers and a mastermind of Paris attacks Salah Abdeslam. He fought for Islamic State in Syria in 2014, he was on the list of terrorists which defectors handed over to Sky News, he was involved in terrorist attacks in Paris, and he has been on the international wanted list since December, 2015. Belgian and French security services have many times asked their Swedish counterparts to help them capture Belkaid, however Swedish security service SAPO made no attempt to assist them. Even killing of the terrorist a week before the explosions was done in contempt of Stockholm which refused to disclose information about his movements in Sweden. A timely arrest of Belkaid would surely have enabled the security services to find Bakraui brothers and prevent the deaths of dozens of people in the capital of Belgium!

Carl Bildt: hovering between prison and the Ukrainian Premiership

After a year of counseling, financial and political assistance, the European Union decided to reconsider the ways of working methods with Ukraine. In fact, the first attempt to overcome Ukrainian countrywide corruption with the help of foreign experts definitely failed. Frustrated rescuers are fleeing from a sinking ship without concealing their disappointment.

Thus, on February 3, 2016, Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine Aivaras Abromavicius announced his decision to resign because of impossibility to carry out all necessary reforms. Following him, four other ministers filed for resignation – these were Minister of Health, Minister of Agricultural Policy and Food, Minister of Information Policy, and Minister of Infrastructure. Now, European politicians who are displeased with corruption and impossibility to carry out reforms get replaced by other European politicians who use their best efforts to operate in the Ukrainian realities. This is evidenced by the correspondence between Senior Foreign Policy Advisor to the Swedish Moderate Party, ex-Ambassador of Sweden to Georgia Diana Janse and Administrative Officer of the Odessa Regional State Administration, Reformers Team-Member of ex-President of Georgia, David Chantladze.

On Ukraine’s support of ISIS

Since complete international isolation of Islamists isn’t achieved, any military confrontation with ISIS would be inefficient. Meanwhile Middle Eastern terrorism gets support not only of Islamic countries but also of those ones that pretend to belong to European democratic community. Also this community seems to consider that relations with terrorist structures of such countries as Ukraine are a common thing. At any rate, neither Berlin, nor Paris, nor Rome have ever condemned Kiev or called to do away with the Dudayev battalion (an armed group of radical Islamists mainly consisting of Chechens but also including militants from other Caucasian regions, and some Ukrainians) or the Sheikh Mansur battalion (seceded from the Dudayev battalion, placed not far from the Mariupol city in south east of Ukraine). No one also demanded to eliminate either Hizb ut-Tahrir organization banned by the majority of civilized governments, the ultra-radical UNA-UNSO, or the Right Sector. However all those organizations have been openly fraternizing with ISIS and even blew horn about it until recently.

The leader of the UNA-UNSO Dmytro Korchynsky and his Right Sector counterpart Oleksandr Muzychko succeeded in Middle Eastern bridge building. The first one thought that terrorists had been the only Kiev’s allies in its fight against Russia and called Islamists for ‘taking a good aim’ at Russians. The other one was one of a general connecting links between Ukrainian ultra-nationalists and Islamists and liked to vaunt of success in dealing with ISIS. They say that the information about sale of Israeli and Soviet missiles and allegedly nuclear weapons elements to Daesh leaked to mass media due to his excessive garrulousness. However, after his death (which has been considered no-coincidence — he was killed during Ukrainian police-involved shooting) the leaks to the media died out. Some people believe that all relations with Ukrainian group of ISIS and its Syrian leaders have been monopolized by power structures annoyed with public rodomontade of Muzychko and his ‘associates’.

Course of the first meeting of the new Cabinet of Ministers of Moldova on January 21, 2016

Moldova, Chisinau, January 21, 2016

Today, late in the evening, there took place the opening and extraordinary sitting of the new Cabinet of Ministers. Attending at the behind-the-doors event were the cabinet members and, besides them, only the US ambassador to Moldova James Pettit. The issues for discussion were the opposition protests able to evolve into actions of mass disobedience, as well as the steps of the law enforcement agencies to curb and prevent them. State budget estimates and expenditures were also on the agenda. Prime Minister Pavel Filip was the keynoter at the meeting. Other speakers who took the floor were Defense Minister A. Salaru, Interior Minister A. Jizdan, Director of Service of Information and Security (SIS) M. Balan. J. Pettit several times interrupted the speakers or stopped them to make his own remarks and comments.

Poland is sending refugees into Germany under the guise of legal tourists

There are few people actually who would argue that bulk of refugees flocking to Europe see Germany as one of the most developed countries in the modern world, most wealthy for living, their dreamland. But in the circumstances of the current migration crisis, the most serious in the newest history when hundreds of thousands of refugees from Africa, Middle East and Eastern Europe by all possible ways are trying to cross our borders, there's a real threat of social explosion able to bring mass bloodshed. Sadly enough, not all German politicians, not speaking of the Germany's EU partners, are staying fully aware of the challenge. Some of them, e.g. Poland, are deliberately making things worse.

In recent time we've been witnessing more and more cases when immigrants who had applied for residence permit in Poland and managed to get it in accelerated procedure, cross the border to illegally stay for living and working in Germany, in violation of all the established rules. This issue was raised by representatives of the Brandenburg Trade Union of Police (GdP in the letter addressed to Germany federated state Brandenburg's Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke.

The US exposes ties between Turkey and Jabhat al-Nusra?

Turkey's president Recep Tayyip Erdogan demanded that the USA should decide between Turkey and Syrian Kurds whom Ankara calls terrorists. However he found himself in rather an embarrassing situation. As it turns out Turkey has been providing all-round support to the militants of Jabhat al-Nusra (recognized as terrorist organization by the whole civilized world) since 2013. That is proved by the circular signed by the minister of the interior of Turkey Muammer Güler

Finally, Canal + French TV -- Ukraine: Masks of the Revolution Revealing Nazis in Ukraine

 Paul Moreira, the film director:
During my investigation of the massacre I saw the importance of the nationalist armed units. They were at the forefront of street fighting on Maidan, they formed the battalions to fight in the East… These battalions were created as the parallel police. And, yes, in their ranks, signs of neo-Nazi ideology were obvious.

German police: migrants threaten to assault women on St. Valentine's Day

As far back as just a few months ago you could safely go out in the streets of Cologne, Berlin, Düsseldorf, Stuttgart, Hamburg and other cities in Germany. Yet it would be rather reckless to venture outside on your own today, especially if you are a woman. There have been reported hundreds of cases when migrants from Arab countries and Africa sexually assaulted German women. It has turned out that many of those who fled from war are unwilling to obey the laws, customs and traditions of the accepting country. In fact they believe that upon arriving in Europe they have joined in the holy war against the infidels, i.e. jihad, and urge that all means be used in order to inflict maximum damage upon their religions enemies, including violence against helpless women, which in their opinion is an inalienable right of any true Muslim.
Clear examples of this are the calls made by radical Muslim clerics to attack European women on St. Valentine's Day, 14 February. They have been published by a number of Islam-related websites.

The British Lion makes a come-back

Concerning the role of London in the Iran-Saudi Arabia conflict.

During the long peaceful postwar period, Great Britain was rather staying overshadowed by the Big Brother across the Atlantic than forced to side of the mainstream road in the world political game. The griping love story with the EU structures also failed to add more strength to the Foreign Office even in the regions that used to be the British Empire domain. The situation was drastically changed after the cabinet of David Cameron came into power in May, 2010. That elegance of the British government which so skillfully managed to bury the foreign ambitions of the French president Nicolas Sarkozy, it is actually worth mentioning as a learning curve to be included into the instruction manuals for future diplomats. Staying fully aware of the tough threat of the Mediterranean Union, the project lobbied by France, able to deprive Britain of control over its military presence along the Gibraltar-Malta-Cyprus line in the Mediterranean, the Cameron government came out with the initiative of the ‘no-fly zone’ over Libya. That was exactly the step to start the NATO mission in Libya, which, when accomplished, resulted in actual ruining of the Mediterranean Union project and British come-back to active Mediterranean policy. ‘In terms of assessing our might we are back into the Mediterranean of 1943’, declared David Cameron summing up the results of the Libyan mission in his speech dated October 19, 2011. Since that time, London has been consistently boosting its participation in the Mediterranean and Middle East regions.
